Potty Training and Help Needed!

Ok, so we officially decided it's time to begin potty training. Landree is a little over 2 and I guess no time is better than now right? We made a big deal about it on Saturday and went to Target to pick out big girl {princess} panties and went to lunch and then the puppy store {Petsmart} and then the Daddy store {Best Buy}. Landree actually had more fun at Best Buy playing Rock Band than at the puppy store. We played outside a little bit and then went for ice cream after her nap. We even got M & M's as a treat if she uses the potty-all this to say we were trying to make it a big deal and a special day. The downfall...I don't feel like we can be consistent. Today for example, we had church in the morning, nap, church at night and then bedtime. Tuesday and Thursday morning she has school. I was hoping to go straight into big girl panties {at least when we are home} I'm ok with accidents because I feel like it will help her realize she's going potty, but I don't feel like we can be consistent. Saturday we set a timer and went to the bathroom every 20 minutes. I think I'm going to make a sticker chart too because she loves stickers. Anyone with girls have any potty training advice? What did you do?

Looking at the kitty's at the puppy store; Landree loves cats, but Jeff :
and I are both alergic so she'll never have a cat.

Sounds like you are on the right track...the M&M's and the sticker chart are great. As for the timing and consistancy, I would try to start when you know you are going to have a couple of days where you are close to home.....or not much to do.

I will send you an email with the link to a post I did awhile ago....people left some great ideas and suggestions:)

Good Luck!

We are in the same exact "potty" boat right now! However, Kamree goes potty all day long at daycare and comes home and pees all over the floor! She also gets M&Ms at daycare and we have offered them at home too. We have been putting little plastic-like pants over her panties which helps a bit with accidents. Good luck!

Lily is really into the potty! We have eben doing big girl panties at home and when we are out and about we do pull-ups, trust me I've been there cleaning a carseat after every oopies is no fun! The hardest part is going to be getting her to tell you when she needs to go when you are out! I give 3 skittles when we are out and 1 at home. Go to the store and buy a bunch of different little candies when she makes it a while day let her pick a new for the next day! My older girls loved to try new ones!

Petunia did amazing with the sticker chart. Once she was starting to get the hang of it, I would set little goals for her like 5 pee pees on the potty would earn her an ice cream. The big one was going poo. We ran out to get a Barney when that happened!!

HOnestly I don't think there is one thing that REALLY works...I had to potty train both Ella and Sophie last year at this time and I would get SOO frustrated b/c I knew they could do it but they still had accidents...I look back at it now and wish I would of just relaxed-I think you are doing all you can...Landree will get it-I promise!! :)

Jen, ugh! Potty training...my advice is to wait until you can be home for a few days. I know it's hard. But that seemed to work for us. The rewards are great! All little girls love stickers and M&M's are the world's most perfect candy! So good luck! She'll get it eventually! We all do, right? But it was easier for our girls to be home and not have to deal with schedule conflicts during the initial phase. Not sure if this helps!

As a grandma, my advice is not to push too fast or stress too much over this. In the beginning I would let her just get the hang of the potty - before bathtime, before bed, after nap, after getting up in the morning, just to get the idea. Then, like others have said, when you think she is ready, pick a few days when you can stay at home and wear the panties exclusively except for sleep. IMHO starting too soon and switching back and forth between diapers or pull-ups and underpants just confuses them and leads to lots of stress for you.

Good luck.

If you read my last blog entry you'll see that we just went through the same thing with Madison over the holidays, I had Santa working with me and the daycare really helped me out too.

I did use a sticker chart for Caitlin and once she reached the end, she would be fully trained and she got to go to the store and pick a surprise.

Of course, Easter is around the corner and the Easter Bunny coming is good incentive!
