Last Friday night we celebrated Hudson’s 1st birthday with lots of friends and family. We had Hudson’s party at the church and it was the perfect place and weather to celebrate our sweet little man. We had several water things for the kids to do and the playground for them to play on. I set all the food up inside so we wouldn’t roast while eating outside and so we didn’t have to fight the flies. It was perfect to have everything inside, but the weather ended up being really nice. There was a little breeze and even if it was hot we were having so much fun no one noticed.
It became very clear to me, very quickly, that I didn’t start planning our parties far enough in advance. Landree and Hudson’s parties were only a week apart so my mom could be here for both parties. Some of the details I would have liked to have added are missing, but I’m sure I’m the only one who noticed. I made the cupcake toppers and sign, and took a short cut by just ordering the cupcakes. I also opted to go easy and just have hotdogs, beans, and chips. I made another cake (molten chocolate-yum!) for the adults and we had ice cream. A kid favorite: bubbles! were party favors.
There are so many fabulous parties/party sites online that it’s easy to get a complex quickly :) This mom has the most fun blog and throws the cutest parties! She has a little Hudson of her own that just his first birthday. You have to check out her blog! I already had Hudson’s cupcake pics and banner made and they were very similar to her Dr. Suess colors. Unfortunately, I was cutting it too close to add much of anything else but I loved the idea of using the Dr. Suess Happy Birthday book as our sign in book! I emailed Jessica and asked if I could shamelessly copy the amazing poem she wrote and she was so sweet to email me back and to even email to see how our party went a few days later. I plan on us reading the book every year on Hudson's birthday. I love traditions and think this will be such a fun one-especially since we’ll be able to look back at all the sweet notes written by his friends.
Here’s a better view of the poem:

Hi! Here from 3 peanuts... Love the birthday party ideas! Will definitely be back to see more of the fabulous party. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Jennifer! Hudson is adorable. So glad ya'll had a great first bday. Were you a little upset that the printers smeared his invitation at the bottom? HA! Just Kidding. I know, I'm weird. So great to catch up a bit on you guys tonight. I've got to contact you asap to make some much needed changes on my blog.
Hey Jen! I saw this post when you posted it, but am just now getting around to commenting! Anyway....everything looked so great!
Also- I just wanted to know if you have any pointers for make those hanging signs that say 'happy birthday hudson". Did you just print the letters on cardstock and cute them out then put them on cardstock? And how do you hang them?
Sorry for the 20 questions! I am behind on getting Parker's party together, but wanted to make a few signs like that to hang.
Guess I should have just emailed you!!
