Trunk or Treating

Tonight we had trunk or treating at our church.  We decided to pick up corn dog (nutritious, I know.  I actually feel the need to defend myself because you’re about to see a picture of my 14 month old holding a corn dog.  Don’t judge…  We actually eat really well most of the time :) And I promise we cut his up.  He just wanted to hold the stick.  Then we got on our costumes and headed to the church.

I love that our church hosts this.  It’s a fun safe way to trick or treat and we get to see all of our little friends all dressed up.  Landree decided that she wanted to be Snow White and Hudson got to wear his monkey costume. 

Landree was being silly and I had my hand in front of my flash, but here she is as Snow White and her shoes… She did great walking in them all night.  We brought extra in case we needed them.  This girls knows the shoes can make or break an outfit :)

When we got to the church we saw the Brewer’s first and Cooper had to show Landree all the candy he’d gotten. 

 

  Jeff and I dressed up too.  We had two pair of bunny ears so we wore them.  Jeff actually said he was a 2010 Cowboys fan (he had on his Rangers shirt).

After we finished up at the church Jeff put Hudson to bed and Landree and I headed to a few neighbors houses to ‘treat’ just a little bit more.  We walked around with our little neighbor girl, and had fun until Landree had a melt down when I told her we had to go home.  Now we are starting tomorrow off with no blanket or tv time.  But we’ve had a fun night.  I hope you’ve all had a great Halloween too!

Alex’s House

I can’t say enough wonderful things about our Sr. Pastor. Not only is he a wonderful pastor, but he is our good friend who gives great advice, and seeks the will of God in everything. He has successfully transitioned our church from a very traditional Southern Baptist church over the past 20 years to a contemporary format. Now that doesn’t sound like such a feat now days-there are tons of contemporary churches, but transiting is a whole different story. We’ve gone though a name and location change, etc. It was the first church to actually ‘make it’ through a transition. A few years ago, when Bill was building a new home there was a Hispanic work crew that was working on the construction project and he was really burdened with not being able to communicate with them and who was sharing the gospel with them. Out of that we started a Hispanic ministry at our church-we have a service on Sunday afternoon’s with around 50-75 people who are ministered to by our Hispanic pastor and his family, Pastor Juan.

This December, Bill had another tug in his heart about our church being involved somewhere internationally. He went to the DR and Haiti and meet with 3 young pastor’s in training and really fell in love with them and their hearts. He came back excited about the opportunities he saw there and wanted us to pray about getting involved. Then the earthquake hit Haiti on January 12th and we all knew that this was the place that God had for us. Alex, one of the young pastors, was killed during the earthquake. His dream was to start an orphanage to get kids off of the streets. Out of all of the destruction-his dream was born. The two other pastors, along with the financial support of our church, construction crews, teams that will continue to go, and training from Bill have taken in 12 children. Some of these kids have been given their first set of clothes and shoes. They have food to eat, a place to sleep, and will go to school, and most importantly they will learn the love of Christ.

We (Bill) have been looking for land out of the city (and chaos) where we can build a permanent structure for the orphanage. A place they can spread out and grow. They have found a beautiful piece of land (about 20 acres) that is in the mountains, it’s cooler than the city. They would have room to farm and teach the children how to farm. It’s really a dream piece of property. The land and taxes, etc. would be about $90,000 and the facility would be about $200,000. Our church is currently supporting the orphanage, but this amount of money is not in our budget. I would love it if you’d watch this video they just filmed. I think this will touch your heart, and maybe you can help. Feel free to share the video also. I think Bill said it best when he said, “I know it’s a big dream, but God is a big God.”

WRC Children and Youth Building

Our new children and youth building offically opened on Feb. 3rd. It is amazing! There were so many volunteers that did such and amazing job to make this building the perfect place where our children and youth can come to learn about Jesus. The pictures below are from my favorite rooms. The 2 and 3 year old room has a lifesize safari bus! The kids actually get inside the bus for story time. There is even a rear view mirror inside. My all time favorite room is the 'tree house room'. It's for the 1-3rd grade students. I love the monkey's on the wall. And check out that slide! The pictures don't serve these rooms justice. 'The Fun Dog Sun Dog' room is for our crawlers, and the cherry blossom tree and animals looking into the sunset are in the baby room.

The under water room is for the 4's and 5's they have their story time in the boat under the waves. All the classrooms have a one way glass window so parents can check in on their kids. The marketplace bamboo room is for the 4-5th graders. The flower room is Landree's room (walkers). It's so cute! They have turtles and bugs that pop off the wall so that the kids can touch them.

The blue room with the cool couch and messy bookselves is Jeff's new office! Check out that silver stripe around the room. There is tons of storage. Several ladies have been working hard on getting everything labeled and organized. The girls restroom is pink. It's so fun to potty in a pink bathroom. The lobby is amazing with a tiki check in desk and fountain with the kids handprints on tiles. We are so blessed to have this new building! I'll post pictures of the youth room later. They had 100 students in their service last Sunday.
